A “new, unique, ergonomic solution” for holding fire doors open safely and legally while enabling improved access has been introduced by Fireco. Freedor is a wireless device installed at the top of a fire door, allowing the door to swing freely, and be left in any position, but closing it when the fire alarm sounds.
Freedor listens for a fire alarm that exceeds 65 dBA, verifying the alarm over a 14-second period, before releasing the fire door to prevent spread of fire and smoke. Features include adjustable closing speed; ability to operate up to power size 4 (80kg) fire doors; setting of the door at any angle up to 90 degrees, and for it to operate normally until activated, and suitability for both right and lefthanded swing doors. The Freedor is installable on the door’s opening or closing side, has a “night-time release” facility, incorporates “fail-to-safe technology”, has a 12-18 month minimum battery life, offers adjustable sensitivity, and is designed to comply with BS EN 1154, BS EN 1155, and BS 7273-4 category C.
