Bacteria resistance, attractive aesthetics, and durability

HI-MACS and LCCA, the latter a fabricator specialised in healthcare interiors and a strategic partner of HI-MACS in France, exhibited “groundbreaking” healthcare furniture with impressive aesthetics made of HI-MACS’ Solid Surface material at the recent 23rd Hopital Expo trade fair for healthcare technologies and services in Paris.

LCCA has wide-ranging experience with furniture for laboratories, hospitals, and education, as it demonstrated at the event by showcasing a wide range of products for the field, many of which were made out of Solid Surface - HI-MACS.

HI-MACS’ resistance to bacteria and many chemicals is said to make it an “exceptionally hygienic, and thus ideal material” for use in hospitals and laboratories. Other features include its “extreme durability and excellent cost-performance ratio”. HI-MACS is also reportedly “the material of choice” for installations in the healthcare sector and in universities and educational institutions thanks to its “visually seamless processing” and non-porous surface. It is fully compliant with international LGA and NSF standards.

The exhibition gave visitors the chance to see the latest furniture possibilities offered in healthcare field, from laboratory appliances to paediatric accessories. A good example was Sorbonne Ecoflux – a new technology to protect laboratory assistants – where use of Solid Surface HI-MACS demonstrates that highly technical applications need not mean aesthetic compromises when the right material is used.
HI-MACS is now often used in medical institutions and laboratories as a way of protecting laboratory assistants from splash when they conduct experiments.
Features of Sorbonne Ecoflux by LCCA include:
• Simple to decontaminate; profiles are thermoformed using HI-MACS Natural Acrylic Stone.
• Energy-saving; the material is flow-optimised in wind tunnel tests.
• Network connection: monitoring and remote control on post information (alarm, walk off, etc).
• Electronic management of the opening of the ice switch and/or remote.

The paediatric table is height-adjustable to allow children to climb onto it. The drawer, bowl, and baby bath, are also made from HI-MACS. The material “has a warm feel and is pleasant to the touch”.

A “new generation of solid surface, HI-MACS is composed of 70% natural stone powder derived from bauxite, 25% high quality acrylic resin, and 5% natural pigments.  Designed and produced by LG Hausys, it is distributed across Europe from LG Hausys Europe headquarters in Geneva.

LG Hausys said: “Its versatility allows users to mould and transform their ideas into reality with possibilities far beyond those offered by materials traditionally used in the world of architecture and design. The most prestigious groups have adopted this product which adapts to the most demanding needs with its extraordinary characteristics; it is completely non-porous, and offers the highest level of durability, and thus does not lose its colouring. It also has uniform thickness, allowing for perfectly imperceptible joints.”
