The importance of resilience planning

Resilience and contingency planning are essential for any major organisation dependent on a continuous, uninterrupted power supply.

For hospitals, however, the impact of a sudden power outage is arguably more critical than in any other sector, with the potential to affect patient care, staff comfort, health and safety, and even put lives at risk, in addition to badly damaging reputation. Fortunately, help is at hand – via specialist temporary power and temperature control companies with the expertise and resources to provide a robust solution to ensure resilience should the worst happen, and even offer national cover for FM companies looking after multiple healthcare estates. An Aggreko contingency plan enables healthcare estates managers to comply easily with legal requirements for operational resilience. Aggreko’s experts conduct a free site survey to assess individual temporary power or temperature control requirements, and thereafter formulate an equipment list and installation logistics plan to ensure minimal downtime. The plan is available 24-hours-a day, 365-days-a year, and rapidly deployable in the event of an emergency using approved procedures, and accurate personnel contact details. Offering a choice of service levels, facilities are covered for a 12-month period at an agreed rate, which eliminates emergency charges. Plans are bespoke, site-specific, flexible, and reviewed annually. Resilience planning clearly deserves serious consideration. The onus is on healthcare estates managers to ensure their facilities comply with current legislation and are adequately prepared to cope with power and temperature control failures. The question such personnel should be asking is not “Can we afford to have it?” but “Can we afford not to?”
