Access dilemma solved

Dor-O-Matic automatic doors, from Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, have been installed during a comprehensive refurbishment at the South Tyneside District Hospital, South Shields.

To meet the detailed specification, Dor- O-Matic Swing and Sliding doors were installed on the Harton Wing entrance, improving both the aesthetics of the façade and access. The Dor-O-Matic Sliding door is intended particularly for areas of heavy pedestrian traffic, and where extra wide openings are needed to facilitate movement of large items such as hospital beds and equipment. On this scheme, Swing doors were also chosen to ensure fast and efficient opening and closing. The doors incorporate a finger trap feature to provide draught prevention and protect fingers from accidental trapping. Folding doors were chosen for the Maternity Block to provide maximum access where space is limited, and were installed both on the outside and inside to form a lobby – creating a draughtproof area, but providing protection against bad weather and a contained, secure area for trapping airborne dirt and cleaning shoes.
