World-leading surgeon, and former Health Minister, Lord Darzi (pictured right) outside the unit with the company’s development director, Gary King), has made a special visit to one of Vanguard Healthcare’s mobile operating theatres while it was at the new Covidien headquarters in Fareham for an open day.
The current UK Business Ambassador for Health and Life Sciences gave the Vanguard management team a vote of confidence as a key proponent of excellence and innovation in healthcare, and an exemplar for British exports, telling Vanguard the unit could be an ideal mobile medical training facility Europe-wide. Lord Darzi praised Vanguard as “a company showing great enterprise and initiative – a perfect example of private sector partnerships enriching the NHS”. The 26-tonne, 15 m long, and 8 m wide unit was used to showcase modern healthcare and technology in action. Lord Darzi’s visit kick-started a discussion between senior healthcare and industry specialists about the potential use of mobile units to help advance clinical skills, training, and product familiarisation, at healthcare premises throughout Europe.
