The ‘Jetvent’ system, recently deployed by industrial and ventilation cleaning specialist, System Hygienics, to clean the ductwork in the subterranean car park at Hinxton Hall, part of the Wellcome Trust’s Genome Campus in Cambridgeshire, was reportedly heralded ‘a revelation’ by the customer.
Norland Managed Services, contractors for Hinxton Hall, had worked with System Hygienics before, and says it knew the company could meet the contract’s requirements, and undertake the work quickly and efficiently with minimal disruption to the car park’s running. Paul Dalton, sales engineer at System Hygienics, said: “Car park ventilation systems throw up their own challenges, particularly in where to place the equipment. The diesel-powered compressor used to clean the ductwork needs to be no more than 90 metres from the job. However, with underground locations, the equipment-carrying vans are often too high to go underground, so alternatives have to be found. “Here we waited until the car park was empty, and then closed off a section of the entrance ramp to position our vehicles and equipment there, meaning working around car park users. The job took eight days, working from about 6 pm until 2 am each night. We averaged 100 metres a day.”
