Construction Specialties says its new ‘dynamic, controllable, sun-shading product’, Solarmotion, can help reduce heat gain ‘by up to 85%’, reducing the need for air conditioning and electrical lighting, and maximising comfort and daylight for building occupants.
The motorised solar shading system can track the sun throughout the day. The company said: “BRE studies, and recommendations in the Building Regulations Part L2, show external shading is the most effective method of controlling solar heat gain.” Andy Moul, Solarmotion product manager, explained: “With Solarmotion, users need not sacrifice aesthetics for energy performance. Designers and contractors can turn a building exterior into a dynamic facade, capable of reacting to weather conditions, and optimising HVAC systems.” Solarmotion is ‘an integral design feature’ which incorporates a mullion to provide distance between the building and the sunshade, allowing for maintenance and building movement. The blades come in sizes from 15 cms, and can be orientated vertically or horizontally, and either mounted flush, or extended off the façade.
