Maximising natural ventilation’s benefits

With energy costs increasing, and growing pressure on organisations to cut their carbon emissions, Trend Control Systems says natural ventilation ‘looks set to enjoy considerably wider use’.

The company explains: “Figures show that it can achieve a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with purely mechanical ventilation, while producing a healthier environment for a building’s occupants, and indeed it has been shown to reduce headaches, fatigue, eye irritation, and loss of concentration, thereby improving productivity. In a healthcare environment, patients, staff, and visitors, will all benefit from more comfortable conditions, and general wellbeing. “Other sectors are already seeing a significant increase in naturally ventilated buildings – especially true in education where the majority of Building Schools for the Future projects feature natural ventilation. Given the benefits to both health and wellbeing, and energy savings, one can understand why the healthcare sector looks set to follow a similar trend.” Within the HEJ Product Showcase area, Trend’s key account manager, John O’Leary, will present on ‘Developments in the Control of Naturally Ventilated Healthcare Buildings’, discussing the company’s latest ‘intelligent’ window control package, that can be fully integrated within its building energy management systems ‘to maximise the benefits of natural ventilation’. Two successful examples, one within a hospital estate, and another at a health centre, will be described.
