Surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital have carried out over 1,000 operations in their new state-of-the art laparoscopic theatre, the city’s first of its kind, since it opened in March 2012.
The £2 million, fully integrated theatre features Karl Storz’s OR1 NEO system, ‘a visionary operating concept for minimally invasive surgery of the future’. (HEJ – August 2012). Features include adjustable touchscreen capability, instant access to images, high definition pictures, and video capture – playable back to patients post-operatively to help explain the procedure.
