Benefits of a long-term relationship

With the NHS facing ‘a huge challenge’ to cut its carbon footprint by 80% by 2050, E.ON says Energy Performance Contracts (or EPCs) offer major advantages – as ‘a nowin, no-fee service providing investment in energy efficiency paid back through guaranteed annual savings’.

E.ON says it has secured places on all of the major procurement frameworks for public sector projects, including the NHS Carbon and Energy Infrastructure Upgrades (CEF), and Birmingham Buy For Good (BFG), offering OJEU-compliant energy efficiency and on-site generation. Some examples of successful projects include:

• Newham University Hospital (pictured), one of the first of London’s RE:FIT projects, has projected savings of £50,000 a year. The project is now moving into a second phase to further increase energy savings.
• A 50 kW array of solar panels at Birmingham and West Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) will reportedly save Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust 50 tonnes of CO2 annually, and bring around £8,000 in energy savings. At the same Trust, LED luminaires, and motion/daylight sensors, have brought yearly energy, maintenance, and carbon savings, of over £7,000.
• At the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, E.ON is preferred bidder for an EPC that it says ‘guarantees savings’ via a range of energy efficiency measures, including upgrading existing CHP plant.
