Around 7,000 Aico Firecap socket / switch inserts are being installed at the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington – part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s £200 m investment to improve healthcare for people in Northumberland and North Tyneside – to maintain the fire integrity of wall partitions where holes for wall sockets have been cut.
Due to open this year (see artist’s impression), the Hospital is reportedly the country’s first of its kind dedicated to emergency care, with A&E consultants working ‘24/7’, and specialists seven days a week.
Being installed to provide passive fire protection, the Firecap socket / switch inserts are designed to reinstate the fire, heat, and noise barrier, when recesses are made to install switches and sockets.
