PROACT uses Lightman for testing service

Pulse oximeter sensor supplier PROACT Medical is using the Lightman SpO2 sensor testing microspectrometer in a testing service.

The Lightman, from The Electrode Company, can test pulse oximeter sensors in isolation from the monitor, thereby identifying LED or cable problems immediately without the need to remove the whole system from its hospital environment. PROACT evaluate sensor and lead integrity before supply, and assess all returned products to check on their accuracy and potential LED degradation with time.

PROACT managing director Neil Manners said: “PROACT is now offering a testing service using the Lightman for any SpO2 sensors. By advocating the use of this facility as part of our service, we find this is a plus point in negotiating supply tenders.”

He continued: “The Lightman has greatly enhanced the service we can offer to both hospitals and ambulance services which are using sensors that appear to work but which are, in fact, operating inaccurately. This can potentially jeopardise patient safety.”
