The Max 4 therm system from Royalle Underfloor Heating Supplies is said to be “the thinnest, strongest and lightest underfloor heating system currently available”.
It incorporates a honeycomb structure of zinc-plated steel, just 10 mm thick and, once laid and with pipework installed, only requires a 5 mm screed above to become a self-supporting floor just 15 mm deep. Royalle says this shallow depth allows it to be used in a variety of refurbishments where there are restrictions in raising floor heights because of low ceilings. Its low weight and strength are also said to make it ideal for multi-storey buildings and for spanning areas where underlying floors are unsound. At 30 kg/m2 the supplier says Max 4 therm is “some 70% lighter” in weight than conventional underfloor heating systems.
The system takes just under 9.5 min to reach full working temperature across the entire floor area, and is laid in interlocking 1,080 x 480 mm panels.
