A lighter, safer touch

Unotron, which reportedly invented the first washable PC computer keyboard, has launched a “super light” key technology across its latest boards.

SoftKey uses a new key design for a keyboard that affords “an easier, faster typing experience to match the demands of even the most demanding typist”. One of the first applications is the fully washable Unotron Compact 12 in keyboard, designed for use in small spaces like medical computer carts. The “mini-keyboard” is “very quiet and fast”, and incorporates a backlit LED display “ideal” for low-light situations such as hospital wards.

Three years ago Unotron says it became the first manufacturer to offer “truly cleanable, hygienic computer use” with its patented SpillSeal technology, which allows its keyboards to be fully immersed in water, disinfectant or even washing up bowls. The company says the technology has been demonstrated to reduce the spread of many infections – and there has been “huge take-up in hospitals, schools, dental practices and offices”.

Another new Unotron product, featuring the SpillSeal technology, is the GermStopper SpillSeal washable corded keyboard, which harnesses the natural anti-bacterial effect of silver ions.
