Bostik has launched a sealant which it says independent tests show protects against infections including MRSA, E. coli and Salmonella.
Business development manager Mike Moran said it was ideal for the healthcare sector: “A damp humid environment can be a breeding ground for germs and, as well as being unsightly and hard to remove, mould spores can cause respiratory illness.
“While good cleaning procedures will reduce the chance of germs breeding, it can be difficult to clean effectively in cracks and joints. Using Evo-Stik Anti-Germ Sealant, specifically developed to protect against healthcare-acquired infections, and independently tested to a recognised industry standard (Japanese Industrial Standard JIS Z 2801:2000; Antimicrobial products - Test for antimicrobial activity and efficacy), can help protect against bacteria spread.”
Whereas many biocides poison microbes to prevent infection spread, which Bostik claims can increase the chances of bacterial resistance, Evo-Stik Anti-Germ Sealant disables them by bursting their membranes. Its microbiological protection also chemically bonds to the sealant material, so is “much less likely” to leach.
