Avidicare, the Swedish manufacturer of Opragon, ‘the first genuine innovation in operating room ventilation in 60 years’, has announced the launch of Opragon 4.
The research-based medtech company says Opragon 4 is targeted at operating facilities that traditionally utilise mixed ventilation systems, which do not require ultraclean conditions, but ‘do need the best comfort and lowest energy use without giving up a safe environment’.
Avidicare explains that Opragon is ‘an innovative ultraclean ventilation system developed to reduce airborne contaminants and the risk of infection during surgery’. Designed to ensure ultraclean air throughout the operating room, it is based on ‘a revolutionary combination’ of classic mixed ventilation – which dilutes the number of bacteria-carrying particles in the periphery of the room, and a unidirectional flow in the middle of the room. The principle is called Temperature controlled AirFlow technology (TcAF). Avidicare elaborated: “Supplying slightly cooled air in a zone around the operating table, while evenly spaced external air showers regulate the temperature of the room, Opragon creates a uniquely large ultraclean environment.”
The company added: “Harnessing the same highly efficient TcAF technology as its larger Opragon siblings, healthcare providers can now equip their entire department with Opragon ventilation systems, including operating rooms intended for lower hygiene levels (non-infection sensitive surgery, <100 cfu/m3).” Opragon 4 reportedly ‘guarantees’ a comfortable and safe environment for both patients and staff. Avidicare said: “This advanced system not only ensures controlled airflow, but also maximises energy efficiency, aligning with the sustainability goals of healthcare facilities aiming for Net-Zero emissions.”
One of the key benefits of Opragon 4 is its suitability for renovating and reconstructing existing operating rooms constrained by property limitations. By requiring less air volume compared with traditional ventilation systems, Opragon 4 is also reportedly ‘an ideal solution for installation in areas where space is limited’.
