The new Liebert FS is a low noise, compact, lightweight flywheel DC energy storage system from Emerson Network Power designed to meet the power storage requirements necessary to ensure power continuity when mains power to a protected load fails.
Liebert FS is a mechanical system for kinetic energy storage, comprising a rotary disk keyed onto a shaft motor-driven to an optimum speed, enabling electric power to be stored that is later delivered, when necessary, via the same motor, which consequently works as a real generator. The very high recharging speed is reportedly “in contrast to the longer term recharging cycle that normally applies in the case of battery packs”. Used with a UPS, the Liebert FS avoids battery use for shortterm power fluctuations, helping extend battery life through reduced cycling.
