Kemper will show its Kemper Hygiene System (KHS), an “engineering solution” for preventing Legionella within cold water systems, which “works dynamically” without using chemical treatment.
The company says there is evidence that the temperature of cold water in buildings is increasing, due both to warming of mains supply water, and cold water systems acting as heat sinks within better insulated buildings, factors it believes correlate “to a large extent” with the prevalence of Legionella. In 2008 Kemper installed KHS into a department at the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust’s Broadgreen site, where its effectiveness has been monitored by top microbiologist and Legionella expert Dr Tom Makin. He will report on the “excellent” trial results in a Healthcare Estates presentation on 28 October.
