MK Electric claims, with its launch of Prestige 3D Antibac Blue, to be the only company currently able to supply a complete anti-bacterial cable management and wiring system.
An anti-bacterial three-compartment power and data trunking system, Prestige 3D Antibac Blue uses a silver-based additive incorporated within the PVCu, which “fights harmful bacteria such as MRSA and Klebsiella pneumoniae”. The company added: “By complementing the range with our Logic Plus wiring devices, the entire installation will meet the requirements of an antibacterial specification. The silver additive is a bactericide, and thus kills, rather than just restricts the growth of, bacteria. Homogenous with the PVC-u compound, the protection runs throughout. There is no loss of effectiveness where trunking lengths are cut on-site, or if the surface becomes scuffed or scratched.” Registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and European Biocidal Products Directive-compliant, the additive reportedly provides effective protection against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Independent tests commissioned to verify its anti-bacterial properties, with samples collected over a 24-hour period, showed “greater than 99.9% kill rates” on both MRSA and Klebsiella pneumoniae, while similar testing for Logic Plus demonstrated 99.9% kill rates on MRSA, and 98.9% rates on Klebsiella pneumoniae. Pre-punched oval holes at 100 mm intervals eliminate the need for drilling when wall fixing, while wiring is facilitated thanks to 50 x 21mm knockouts at 100 mm intervals along compartment dividers. The system’s 1, 2, and 3 gang 45 mm deep back boxes, and 1 and 2 gang 40 mm frames, ensure Cat 6 compliance and ease of connection to power and data devices, with the open top/bottom allowing unhindered tool-free cable entry through the trunking compartment divider knockout. Available in dado and skirting profiles, Prestige Antibac Blue features a patentpending fluorescent additive which glows bright blue under UV light (standard PVCu glows “dull purple”) for “complete customer confidence”.
