Healthcare glazing specialist Fendor has launched a sliding, anti-ligature security window designed following extensive feedback from NHS Trusts who felt there was a gap in the market for a product of this type that was easier to clean than existing designs.
The new CleanVent is available in both “all steel” and “all aluminium” versions, with the design perfected following “roadshows” during which the company sought guidance and feedback on the initial version and incorporated some of the changes suggested. Fendor MD Chris Duffy said: “At last year’s Healthcare Estates, as a first-time exhibitor, we received much praise for the quality of our windows, but many Trust representatives told us cleaning is a huge issue where secure windows are fitted. We were also told our competition was promoting ‘selfcleaning’ as the solution to cleaning sliding windows, but that it wasn’t working. Our challenge was to deliver a cleanable sliding window, and I can honestly say that, in the 30 years we have been manufacturing glazing solutions, we have never launched a product that has generated so much interest UK-wide.” The CleanVent’s openable vent is secured via a SecureLock locking mechanism, while the window is “easy to clean” from all sides. Opening and closing can be manually or electrically controlled, while the CleanVent has a narrow frame to maximise both natural light and ventilation. The window incorporates both anti-contraband/escape/burglar security, and wasp/fly and vermin-resistant, grilles. Additional features include anti-ligature trickle vents; integral blinds within fixed panes/moving vents, the option of local and remote electronic operation (with staff override), and an anti-bacterial finish. The SecureLock cylinder can be fitted internally or externally for maximum security, and the windows are weathertested to BS6375 and enhanced standard CWCT TN 41.
