Versatile meter interface

Trend Control Systems’ new Ethernet Metering Interface Controller (EMIC) “cost-effectively” allows readings from multiple, multi-parameter electricity meters to be automatically channelled to a Trend building energy management system (BEMS), where they can be displayed, analysed, and then acted on, to effect energy savings.

EMIC is compatible with 13 commonly installed multi-parameter Modbus submeters from six manufacturers – Elcontrol, Socomec, Northern Design, IME, Carlo Gavazzi, and Autometers Systems. Three versions are available, for applications involving up to 8, 16, and 32 networked meters. All can communicate up to 25 parameters. The interface connects to a Trend BEMS via the latter’s Ethernet TCP/IP communications network, with metered data instantly accessible through any of the BEMS’s “963” operator interfaces, displayed in various formats. By studying power consumption readings for different zones and plant, an energy manager can identify where waste is occurring, and take appropriate remedial action.
