Building savings predicted

Knauf Drywall claims the healthcare sector can expect significant building cost savings with its introduction of a simplified acoustic partition design for hospitals. The new 52 dB (Rw) design, which reportedly satisfies the key requirements of HTM 08- 01: Acoustics, is an addition to the company’s Performer partition solutions range.

John Pullan, Knauf Drywall project specification manager, said: “We can now provide a partition with performance of more than 50dB (Rw) at virtually half the plasterboard cost of earlier solutions. On a large hospital project this can save hundreds of thousands of pounds – without compromising build quality, fire resistance, or space requirements.” The new partition “achieves its money-saving performance” with just one layer of 15 mm Knauf Soundshield on each side of a 92 mm Knauf “C” Stud, with a layer of 100 mm Knauf Modular Roll compressed into the cavity. It has “severe” impact duty rating, and can be used for partitions up to 4,000 mm high.
