With facilities managers increasingly aware of the negative impact of dirty ventilation systems, specialist duct cleaning company Ductbusters (HEJ – September 2010) has launched a risk assessment service in response to client demand, allowing companies to plan for cleaning programmes when setting budgets.
A site visit from one of its experienced surveyors will ascertain the internal conditions within any ventilation system, measuring dust levels, microbiological content, temperature, humidity, and CO2. A written report will then detail the findings and areas of priority, and advise on the scale and scope of treatment required, and any suggested remedial action. The Health and Safety at Work Act legally requires regular ventilation system inspection and recording of the findings, while Ductbusters emphasises that risk assessments can be important in obtaining funding for cleaning programmes, or investigating complaints over indoor air quality. Ian Wall, sales director, said: “We have always provided risk assessment on request, and have seen demand grow over recent years. We have now taken the decision to launch the service formally and offer it as a separate, additional service.”
