Latest gas terminal unit should help minimise cross-infection

BeaconMedaes and Addmaster have combined their expertise to launch 'the next generation' Gem 10 medical gas terminal unit, said to be the UK’s first medical gas terminal unit to offer inherent antimicrobial protection as standard.

All user-accessible parts, including the surface-mounted back box and cover plate, feature silver ion-based Biomaster antimicrobial additives incorporated within the material during manufacture. There reportedly prevent growth of harmful bacteria, last the lifetime of the product, and are safe and non-toxic. Independent testing is said to have shown a 99% reduction in MRSA and E-Coli bacteria. The technology used prevents cell division (mitosis), stops the cells producing energy, and stops DNA replication.  The terminals are designed for up to 10,000 probe insertions.

Beacon Medaes says it has already sold over 1.3 million of the existing Gem10 terminal outlets worldwide, adding that their features include “exceptionally low pressure drop performance”, for an unhindered effective working pressure, high precision gas indexing, bed jacking engineered weak point, and a “unique check valve”.

The latest Gem 10 medical gas terminal unit gas incorporates a redesigned identification ring with a flush design, which is said to “eliminate the dust trap the often associated with other designs”. BeaconMedæs provides complete medical gas solutions globally, including medical air, medical vacuum, gas distribution equipment, and pipeline components. It has several assembly facilities plus an extensive sales and service presence throughout the world. In July 2006, BeaconMedæs was acquired by Atlas Copco, and has since become the global competence centre for medical solutions within Atlas Copco.
