Twenty-one operating theatres at the new four-storey Peterborough City Hospital, completed late last year at a cost of £289 million, and now dominating the local skyline with its 13 wards, 612 beds, and 18 operating theatres, feature clinical medical gas pendants, operating theatre lights, surgeons’ theatre control panels, and examination lights, from Starkstrom.
Six of the main theatres incorporate the company’s ultra clean canopies, while the adult and paediatric ITUs feature Starkstrom’s clinical pendants. A five-year maintenance contract has further extended the hospital’s relationship with the supplier, giving it access to 24-hour technical support.
Alongside being lightweight, robust, and easy to maintain, the Starkstrom MarLED operating theatre lights used at the new Peterborough healthcare facility have a design which allows tessellation of the light heads to produce one very large, fully adjustable light field, an adjustable colour temperature, and an illumination “superior to most others”. No moving parts means both low maintenance costs and power consumption.
The medical gas pendants specified feature a “unique” integral cable management system, ensuring that visible cabling is kept to a minimum for a clear, clutter-free environment. They are also, Starkstrom says, “easy to clean and “infection control-friendly” due to elliptical arms, extruded aluminium fascia, and electrical sockets with no visible fixings, thus eliminating dirt traps.
In its role as one of the new hospital’s key suppliers, Starkstrom worked on the Peterborough project for over two years.
