BAFE, the independent third party registration body for the fire protection industry that develops schemes for UKAS-accredited certification bodies to assess and approve companies to recognised standards.
Says its aim is to support specifiers and property owners to ensure quality fire protection for their premises, staff, and customers. The Department for Communities and Local Government said: “We support third party certification schemes as an effective means of assuring the quality, reliability, and safety of products and services, and recognise the valuable role that BAFE plays in bringing to the market recognised registration schemes for these.” BAFE says organisations specifying the supply and maintenance of portable extinguishers should seek companies accredited to BAFE Schemes SP101/ST104. For fire alarm systems companies should hold BAFE modular SP203-1 scheme approval. The organisation added: “We have recently launched our Emergency Lighting scheme (SP203-4), and are developing a scheme for companies carrying out Fire Risk Assessment (SP205).“
